Amid nations' increasing uncertainty and insecurity, Quakers in Britain say that inequality has become vividly apparent. More than a thousand Quakers meeting for their annual gathering, said, "We are distressed by the trashing of our planet, and angry at the greed, ruthlessness, lies and violence which blight the lives of so many."

The famous Quaker Tapestry is a modern stitched masterpiece in storytelling. Part of it is being exhibited in Friends House in London. It was last in the capital over 20 years ago.

A treaty to rid the world of nuclear weapons was formally adopted today at the United Nations.
Quaker observers hailed the historic treaty as a huge step, saying such weapons of mass destruction should be illegal and unacceptable.
