  Shortly ahead of International Migrants Day, working together, Quakers in Britain, American Friends Service Committee, Friends Committee for National Legislation, Quaker Council for European Affairs and Quaker United Nations Office have developed a statement on migration drawing on Quaker foundations and work with migrants and on migration.
  

• Quakers welcome historic Nuclear Ban Treaty

  The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) – also known as the Nuclear Ban Treaty − is entering into force as international law on 22 January 2021, having been ratified by Honduras, the 50^th state, in October. It comprehensively prohibits participation in any nuclear weapon activities.

• Human Rights matter for all

  Today − on global Human Rights day − Quakers in Britain are joining 110 organisations in writing an open letter to the Prime Minister and political leaders, urging them to respond proportionately to COVID-19, protect people's rights and the rule of law and stand by the Human Rights Act.

• Highlight of Quakers' year moves online

  Book the dates now: Yearly Meeting in Session 2021 will be held, largely, between 31 July and 8 August. This will be an online event for hundreds of Quakers to gather in stillness to listen to stories of experience and to the promptings of love and truth.

• Quakers commit to becoming an anti-racist church

  Quakers were totally immersed in the slave trade. Not just as abolitionists. They were ship owners, captains, merchants and investors, in ports such as London and Bristol.

  This hard truth faced Quakers' representative body this week as they met online to discuss, among other matters, action on racism. They had before them a minute from the church's trustees which said, “Racism exists among Quakers in Britain and must be tackled at all levels."

• Quakers call for action on racial and ethnic disparities

  Quakers in Britain have submitted evidence to the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities, calling on the government to embed anti-racism in policies, practice and discourse across society.

• Remembering the Kindertransport

  In the tumultuous final days before World War II, Quakers were among many who rescued almost 10,000 children from German-controlled Europe. Quakers' pivotal role was acknowledged this week when the Kindertransport was commemorated.
