Supporting Vocal Ministry: How Elders and Others Can Help
24 June 2025, Online
How can we support those who are led to speak in meeting for worship? What spiritual nurture may help? And what if ministry feels too difficult, too much, too little, or inappropriate? This session offers practical ideas and space to explore.
Whether or not you have ever given vocal ministry, you may find yourself supporting people who do – as an elder, spiritual nurturer, or member of the meeting. This session will assume you have been to meeting for worship enough to be familiar with Quaker practice, but may be new to providing spiritual support or considering how to respond to a specific situation.
During the session, we will think about how to support spoken ministry as a part of the whole process of meeting for worship. We'll consider the potential roles of afterwords, study groups, the strength of the community, upholding, and prayer, and the benefits of approaching complex situations with curiosity. There will be space for asking questions and open discussion.
