Being a Quaker Registering Officer
18 February - 25 March 2026
Quakers have celebrated marriages since the time of Margaret Fell and George Fox. We have distinctive practices, and our weddings are recognised as legally valid. This course provides essential preparation for Friends wishing to serve as Registering Officers.
Friends serving as Registering Officers will be led through the process of working with a couple wishing to marry, the theory and practice of Quaker weddings and the legal requirements of registering a marriage. You will discover how and when to involve others, and sources of ongoing support.
This course will involve live sessions with experienced Registering Officers, discussion forums and activities to undertake in your own time. By the end of our time together over 7 weeks, you will have a deeper understanding of the history of Quaker marriage and your ministry, and be confident in preparing for and leading a Quaker wedding.
This course is also suitable for Friends looking to refresh or update their knowledge in returning to this role.
Live Zoom sessions take place at 18:30-20:00 (UK time) every Wednesday.
