Welcome to the Library of the Society of Friends. Here you will find all the information you need to visit the Library and use our collections.
Please read the information on special closure below.
The Library is currently closed and staff are working at home, in line with public health guidance.
During this closure period we are going to be carrying out some refurbishment work on the reading room and reviewing our current service for the public. Due to the extended public health measures this is taking longer than initially expected and we are now hoping to re-open to users in September 2021. This timeline may be subject to change in which case we will try to update this page as soon as we can.
Please get in touch if you want to discuss the impact of our closure on your project, find out about alternative places to access material, or if you have any general feedback on our service. You can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
While we are closed, we can answer general enquiries about our collections, although we cannot currently check items in the collections or make copies on behalf of researchers. We hope to resume this work when safe to do so.
You can access our online catalogue here: https://www.quaker.org.uk/resources/library/search-the-catalogue and our subject guides, reading lists, and other finding aids here: https://www.quaker.org.uk/resources/library/about
Library Hub Discover is a useful tool to search across all libraries in the UK to find alternative holdings of published material: https://discover.libraryhub.jisc.ac.uk/

We require readers to register by completing a registration form, which is available to download below. Readers must provide photographic ID and formal proof of address (drivers licence, utility bill etc) to register. Britain Yearly Meeting members and attenders do not need to provide proof of address as long as they are listed on the central BYM database.
Visit our About the collections page for more information about what material the Library holds. We have an online catalogue where you can search for material in advance of your visit. For more information go to Search the catalogue.
We encourage you to contact us in advance of your visit. You can pre-order material by emailing us your order on the Contact us page.
We reserve the right to restrict access to our collections - please read the guide to access document on this page.
We charge £5 per day for self-service photography of library and archive material, payable in cash. You will be asked to fill in a copyright declaration form and to follow the Library's photography rules. We do not allow flash photography, tripods or handheld scanners and require that all material is handled and supported appropriately. Library staff are happy to help if you are unsure. Self-service photography is for private research only, if you require images for publication or display please contact email@example.com
