Welcome to the Library of the Society of Friends. Here you will find all the information you need to visit the Library and use our collections.

Opening hours

Please read the information on special closure below.

Special closure

The Library is currently closed.

We are carrying out some refurbishment work on the reading room and reviewing our current service for the public. This has taken longer than we anticipated, partly due to the challenges presented by the pandemic. We are taking our time to get it right and create an accessible and welcoming service that better serves our community. We are now expecting to open to the public in early 2022.

Keep an eye out for an upcoming blog post detailing the first phases of the work.

Please get in touch if you want to discuss the impact of our closure on your project, get help with alternative sources for material, or if you have any general feedback on our service. You can contact us at library@quaker.org.uk.

We now have some limited access to the site and our collections so can hopefully supply some small-scale digitisation of research materials (10 images maximum), although we cannot provide extensive research. Please contact us for more information.

You can access our online catalogue here: https://www.quaker.org.uk/resources/library/search-the-catalogue and our subject guides, reading lists, and other finding aids here: https://www.quaker.org.uk/resources/library/about

Library Hub Discover is a useful tool to search across all libraries in the UK to find alternative holdings of published material: https://discover.libraryhub.jisc.ac.uk/
