QPSWCC 20-22 March 2026

Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee (QPSWCC) met for its annual residential meeting at Swarthmoor Hall. They discussed Quaker action for peace, protest rights and responding to hatred and division in society.

What is this committee responsible for?

On behalf of Quakers nationally, QPSWCC oversees Britain Yearly Meeting's efforts to build a sustainable and peaceful world and helps shape Quaker positions on public affairs.

What did it do at this meeting?

The committee spent time considering the spiritual basis of discernment, before holding four linked sessions looking at peace. They heard about the peace consultations that took place this year, hearing from Friends across the Yearly Meeting about what is needed from Quakers at this time. They considered the work on protecting the right to protest and the Quakers who have been arrested, charged or convicted for nonviolent demonstrations. They discussed work by Quakers and others to challenge division in society and hateful far-right narratives. And then they considered the issues in the round, drawing together insights to help inform thinking as peace work is further discerned later this year.
