BDRC 9 July and 11-13 July 2025

The Book of Discipline Revision Committee met to discuss the latest progress in updating Quaker faith & practice ready for a new draft text to be presented to Yearly Meeting in 2027.

What is this committee responsible for?

Also known as our book of discipline, Quaker Faith & Practice is used to describe our faith and our organisation. Britain Yearly Meeting decided in 2018 that it needs to be updated. In February 2019, 24 Friends were appointed to be the Book of Discipline Revision Committee (BDRC). We have a great mix of people with different lives, ages and experiences of Quakerism.

What did it do at this meeting?

The key messages from this meeting are:

All topics identified for inclusion in the new Book of Discipline now have content either complete or in development, and we are on track to have the complete first draft of the new book ready by late 2026 for inclusion in Documents in Advance ahead of Yearly Meeting in July 2027.

We have started work to prepare resources to prepare and assist Friends across Britain in how best to engage (read, reflect, respond) with this complete first draft in early 2027.

We have advertised to engage an external reader to help us in preparing our draft for sharing with the wider Yearly Meeting. (See www.quaker.org.uk/rqfp for more information).

We are working with members of Crynwyr Cymru-Quakers in Wales on plans for incorporating Welsh language content in the new book.

We are looking forward to sharing more about the planned structure of the book when we report to Meeting for Sufferings in December 2025.
