What is this committee responsible for?

PPC is a new committee set up to support BYM Trustees and the central committees to take good decisions about prioritisation and the allocation of resources to deliver the four aspects of the charitable object of BYM, as set out in Quaker faith & practice 8.03.

PPC includes representatives from BYM Trustees, Quaker Life Central Committee and Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee, as well as some other Friends.

What did the committee do at this meeting?

This was the second ever meeting of PPC (the first was in March 2026) and the committee is still at an early stage in its work. Making decisions about Quakers in Britain's charitable work programmes requires good information about what the programmes aim to achieve and how far they are meeting their goals.

At this meeting PPC considered how to use terminology consistently when talking about impact, monitoring and evaluation throughout the work of Quakers in Britain, aligning PPC's language with the terminology currently in use by staff. A new glossary of terms will help to keep this on track.

PPC is developing two new templates for staff to use when reporting on their work. One will cover all the essential background information about programmes, and will be made available as part of staff and committee inductions. The other will be for twice yearly reporting to PPC and can be adapted for use by different committees if that is helpful. The aim is that the new templates will cover most reporting which staff already do, and will therefore not duplicate work for staff.

When PPC next meets in January 2027, it will receive and consider its first set of reports and will be ready to start looking at the impact and effectiveness of different work programmes. By summer 2027 it will be able to support BYM Trustees and senior staff with the budget for 2028.
