Being a trustee: an experience of Quaker service
23 September 2021 by Caroline Nursey
Do you have a passion for Quaker work? Could you help build a thriving community of Quakers throughout Britain?
If you want to help build a thriving community of Quakers in Britain, we want to hear from you.
This is a crucial time for Quakers in Britain. Building on our commitment to being an anti-racist church, we are looking for someone to help BYM support Quakers in faith, action and to oversee the work of our organisation.
The Trustees oversee the organisational charity work of Britain Yearly Meeting. The Clerk of Trustees provides line-management, support and challenge to our Recording Clerk. Consulting with and reporting to Meeting for Sufferings, as well as to Yearly Meeting in session, are important parts of being a Trustee. Listening to Friends is vital.
We would like to encourage a wide range of Quakers to consider this exciting opportunity to make a difference within BYM, and actively encourage expressions of interest from Friends of colour and young Friends.
We also encourage enquiries about the Clerk of Trustee role. The Clerk works closely with an Assistant Clerk, and many of the tasks and responsibilities are shared between the two. If you feel led to make use of your gifts in this role, please put your name forward - we would love to hear from you!
If you'd like to find out more, please submit an Expression of Interest form and select BYM Trustees, ( https://forms.quaker.org.uk/suggestnames). This will be received by our Nominations team who will contact you with more information.
If you would like an informal conversation about serving as a Trustee, please contact Penny Finch, Nominations Manager (nominations@quaker.org.uk).
An expression of interest or an application is not a commitment from you to serve or a promise that we may ask you, but the beginning of an exploration.
