Summer Yearly Meeting – “Are we speaking our truth?”
Next year's annual gathering of Quakers in Britain will have the Quaker testimony to truth at its heart.
The meeting from 26-30 July, in person at Friends House and online, will consider how the faith has acted on previous promises and how to foster integrity in public life.
Sessions will take inspiration from individual Quakers and meetings, and from work on climate justice, becoming an anti-racist church, and the inclusion of transgender Quakers.
With a general election expected in 2024, Quakers will consider integrity in the media and politics.
This will include exploring how to find kinder ground on which to listen, acknowledge and disagree, and enable a shared quest for truth.
Yearly Meeting will also explore its own formal role in steering the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain.
Children, young people, and adults will all be welcome at this free event, which will include time together exploring important matters in creative and social activities.
These will include a choice of mixed-age activities, indoors and outdoors, during creative exploration afternoons, as well as more age-appropriate activities.
“This shared discernment will be an adventure, and we ask friends to join these experiments with open hearts and minds," said the organizing group.
A huge, shared meeting for worship will be held on the morning of Sunday, 28 July, to allow Quakers from across the country in homes, meeting houses and Friends House to take part.
Bookings will open on 11 March next year.
