Children and young people prepare to ‘build bridges’.
Volunteer organisers for this year's Children and Young People's Programmes have met at Warwick University, to shape the themes for Yearly Meeting.
Friends of all ages from across Britain are being invited to consider how, in a divided world, we foster acceptance and belonging? What unites us as a Spirit-led community? How can we handle conflict well in a way that builds connections, nurtures community and helps us find common ground?
The Children's Programme team (working with children aged 0 to11) have chosen the theme 'Building Bridges,' and have been exploring how play, creativity, and community can help children discover connection in joyful ways.
Meanwhile, the Young People's Programme (for youngsters aged 11 to 15) will focus on 'Connecting across divisions', supporting young people to reflect on prejudice, dialogue, and why it helps to understand those we disagree with.
"Bringing the two teams together sparked new ideas," said Simon Hardie, Team Leader for Youth, Children and Families. "We also felt it strengthened the shared purpose that runs through all of Yearly Meeting - nurturing a loving community where people of every age can explore big questions with openness and hope."
Alongside these programmes, the 'Accompaniment at Yearly Meeting 2026' team is preparing to support 15–17‑year‑olds attending with adults.
Accompaniment helps young people feel confident and included as they take part in worship, community, and Quaker decision‑making, at their own pace and in ways that work for them.
"Thanks to the imagination and dedication of our volunteers, the plans for Yearly Meeting 2026 are really exciting," enthused Simon. "Through stories, games, creative activities, and worship, children will discover what it means to listen, understand, and connect with others—even when we don't agree. It's a chance to grow in kindness and learn how Quaker values can help us live peacefully in a diverse world."
Places are still available for the Children's Programme and Accompaniment at Yearly Meeting.
