Why should we protest against DSEI?
In 2019, when I was 15, I attended a protest against the Defence and Security Equipment International arms fair (DSEI) alongside hundreds of peace activists, many of whom were Quakers. We gathered outside the ExCel centre in London to block the entrance, share art, sing, and hold meetings for worship in remembrance of the countless victims of war.

What does Quaker community look like in 2023?
Quakers are a worshipping community. Our simple way of worshipping, of seeking the leadings of the Spirit for us, depends on us coming together in groups. It is a corporate act, a recognition that the body has many members. We can worship individually, of course – and many Quakers have our own personal spiritual practices – but we recognise that seeking God's will for us is best done together.

5 solidarity actions you can take for Palestine and Israel
The scale of the violence and harm to civilians is unprecedented and unlike anything in living memory. Hospitals, schools, places of worship, roads, and homes have been decimated, and civilians have been targeted. Faith groups and human rights agencies across the world have called on the international community to act immediately to secure a ceasefire and work to ensure humanitarian aid and access.

Military stand-off over Ukraine: 5 things you can do
On 25 January Quakers in Britain issued a statement urging all sides to "engage in urgent de-escalation and commit to resolving the stand-off over Ukraine peacefully". Since then, we have witnessed the continuation of the military build-up. Despite Russia's recent disputed announcement of a partial withdrawal of some troops, there is continued international concern that diplomacy may fail and that a terrible new war may break out.

5 ways to witness for peace
We have all watched in horror as thousands of civilians are killed and displaced in Gaza, in response to the atrocious attacks by Hamas in Israel on 7 October. As Quakers in Britain we have felt compelled to speak out and take action and Friends across the country have too.

5 reasons to be a Quaker in 2022
Have you ever been asked why you're a Quaker? Often I find my mind goes blank when I'm put on the spot. So I had a think, and came up with five reasons I continue to be a Quaker:

5 reasons to celebrate the work of nominations committees
I fell in love with nominations when I started to work for Britain Yearly Meeting. In that role I was secretary to Central Nominations Committee, the committee that nominates Friends to coordinate Quaker work across Britain. This includes roles developing Quaker communities, supporting peace and social witness work, building connections with other faiths, as well as roles that help our faith directly, such as clerk of Yearly Meeting.

9 voices the Department for Education would ban from schools
Recent Department for Education guidance tells headteachers in England to ensure external organisations, speakers and resources do not take "extremist" stances. These include a stated desire to abolish capitalism and "a failure to condemn illegal activities done in support of their cause". The guidance also bans "victim narratives that are harmful to British society".

The long-term cost of war: how sending landmines to Ukraine undermines the fight for a mine-free future
After I spoke on the radio back in 2023 about peace and pacifism in the context of the war in Ukraine, I had a Quaker get in touch with me. One problem with war, he said, was its corrupting nature "even on those whose cause, like the Ukrainians, is just". Over time, groups and countries can start to use tactics that they earlier condemned, such as the use of landmines.
