This week I attended my first ever online meeting for worship. To my slight surprise it was a warm and spirited experience.

How a fair tax system could help us Build Back Better
Sunday 14 June is Tax Justice Sunday: a day when Christians are encouraged to come together to reflect on the role of tax in society, and to speak out for a fairer tax system. This year it comes as many in the churches and in wider society are calling for tax reform to be part of how we build back better from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inspiring the journey to COP26
The UN climate talks, COP26, will take place in Glasgow in November this year. The focus is on 'Uniting the World to Tackle Climate Change'. It is of global significance.Of course, I have always been aware that climate change is something I should take seriously but, to be truthful, I had done very little. However, in January 2020 I experienced the catastrophic outcome of a severe summer drought in Australia. Suddenly climate change became personal.

Rebuilding society through peacemaking and disarmament
Times of crisis expose existing inequalities and other sources of violence in society. If we are to build a humane, just and sustainable society, peacemaking and disarmament must be our guiding lights.

Not zero: why we should be wary of ‘net zero’ climate targets

Heeding the voice of conscience: a call to continued action
On 15 May we marked Conscientious Objectors' Day. At one of the ceremonies around Britain, I joined people gathered in Tavistock Square, London to hear music, poetry and testimony in the leafy gardens where the conscientious objection memorial stone rests. We laid flowers for all those who refused to kill. You can watch a recording on the Peace Pledge Union website.

Would Little Amal go to Rwanda this year?
Last year, many British Quakers took part in or witnessed a series of events throughout Britain in which a 3m tall puppet, Little Amal, journeyed from the Syrian border via Dover to Manchester, joining in events and rallies during her journey. Amal symbolised the search for a new life of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers. The events were inspiring and full of hope.

Silence and hope: a witness to the impact of climate breakdown
On a cool day in central London, I stood in Jubilee Gardens holding a cardboard sign asking passers-by to sign a petition for loss and damage funding. Nearby, faith leaders stood in a circle, leading a silent vigil.Parents with pushchairs strolled past, some tugged to a stop by curious children. Opposite the park, Shell's headquarters loomed above us, rows of small windows failing to give any insight on the destructive work taking place inside.
