Kindertransport survivors call for routes to sanctuary for child refugees

In the chaotic months before the outbreak of World War II, Jewish people were in desperate need of help to escape German-occupied Europe. Quakers were among those who responded, creating the Kindertransport to bring children to safety and persuading the government to amend visa requirements. Today, some of the survivors are urging the UK government to provide more routes to sanctuary for child refugees.

Quakers stand by #Stansted15

Peaceful protesters, known as the #Stansted15, have been sentenced for endangering safety at aerodromes. Three of them were given nine month sentences suspended for 18 months and ordered to carry out unpaid work. Eleven defendants were given community orders and must carry out 100 hours' unpaid work. One was given rehabilitation activity. Quakers are supporting the group who say their nonviolent direct action was in defence of human rights.

More than 100 Quakers from England, Scotland and Wales came to Westminster today to take part in The Time is Now, a mass lobby of parliament urging MPs to take action on climate crisis and environmental breakdown. Faith representatives ─ including a former archbishop and a young Quaker ─ addressed the gathering.
