The Book of Revelation for Quakers

Is the Book of Revelation a terrifying vision of the future, a dangerous fantasy, or a radical political manifesto? In this course you will get to know the most controversial book of the Bible, learn why it was so important to the early Quakers, and how to make sense of it in today's world.
You will learn what an 'apocalypse' is, and who Revelation was originally written for. We will discuss the violence of Revelation, and how queer and feminist readers have responded to this book. You will learn how the first Quakers found inspiration in the language and imagery of Revelation, and we will explore how Revelation can be read responsibly today.
The course takes place over five weeks, with one 90-minute online session each week. Each session will involve a combination of talks, discussion and Bible study. In between these sessions you will be able to share your reflections and ask questions using online discussion forums.
