Simplicity: A Quaker Way of Life
28 June 2025
“A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength." How have Quakers in the past used simplicity to embody their faith, and how can we, as modern-day Friends, free ourselves of material encumbrances to find strength and delight in a simpler life?
Many of us are drawn to a simplified life, for both spiritual and practical reasons. This course will explore what that means, by reflecting on the behaviours and tastes of Friends in history, and by examining the contemporary challenges we personally face when we seek to live a simpler life.
This two-hour session will include the tutor's personal story of moving towards greater simplicity, inspired by her Quakerism, as well as a practical activity in small groups, and time for discussion.
Whether you are seeking ways to simplify your life, or have been living simply long term, come along for community, for inspiration and for sharing the joys that an unencumbered life can bring.
