Reading the Bible with Early Friends
31 October - 11 December 2022, Online
This course will offer a detailed exploration of distinctively Quaker approaches to the Bible, based on how early Friends read, understood and used the scriptures.
Working through this material will enable you to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between Quakers and the Bible. In particular, we will look at how early Friends read the Bible inwardly, and how they acted it out in the form of public signs. We will also consider why the letters of Paul, and the Gospel of John were so important to the early Quaker movement.
The course, which runs over six weeks, includes recorded presentations, questions for reflection, written resources and a discussion forum. We will also meet together in three short live sessions to share our reflections and responses.
The date period given for the course is when you are expected to interact with the online material and discussion forum; you can work on this at any time to suit you. The live Zoom sessions are fortnightly at 19:00-20:00 (UK time) on Thursdays beginning 10 November.
