Make Polluters Pay: COP31 activity and Letter hand-in

9 - 22 November 2026

An activity during COP31 to send a message to UK Chancellor John Healey: make oil and gas giants pay for the damage they have caused.

An imaginary "Make Polluters Pay" banknote with quotes from climate-vulnerable countries. It is scaled to show the difference between current UK international climate finance commitments (small grey rectangle in bottom right corner) and the fair amount the UK should be paying (the full size of the banknote).

Soon, people from over 200 countries will be gathering in Turkey for vital international climate talks, COP31.

Join our creative activity to design and craft your own symbolic currency responding to urgent calls from global south countries to finally deliver them the climate finance they need.

The goal is to create a powerful visual message: that the UK can contribute its fair share of international climate finance if we make polluters pay for the environmental damage they have caused.

After COP31, Quakers in Britain will add your creations to our interfaith letter to Chancellor John Healey calling for the Treasury to implement polluter pays mechanisms.

By signing up, you will be sent an activity guide and an invitation to join the letter hand-in after 23 November.
