Knowing Ourselves: Faith and Gender

This one day gathering will share current experience and understanding of gender identity and explore a Quaker perspective on the links between knowing ourselves, deepening our faith and living our faith in the world. Organised by QLGF - the Quaker LGBT+ Fellowship. We welcome everybody to this gathering, including those who are not members of QLGF, non-Quakers, and people of any sexual orientation or gender identity.
During the morning, short talks will be followed by discussion structured around questions. In the afternoon a choice of two workshops sharing personal experience. Lunch provided.
Speakers Include:
Helen Belcher is Co-founder of Trans Media Watch, and a contributor to a forthcoming book on faith and transgender.
Jennie Barnsley is a Quaker who provides trans* awareness sessions for Quaker meetings based on her PhD research.
Jenny-Anne Bishop, chair of Sibyls (transgender spirituality group), is a lay pastoral leader and Trans Ministry coordinator at the Metropolitan Congregation (MC) - LGBT Mission Church within Wilbraham St Ninians URC, Chorlton, Manchester.
Christina Beardsley, hospital chaplain and writer, co-devised the 'Gender, sexuality, spirituality' workshop and is a member of Sibyls.
Surat-Shaan Rathgeber Knan, Liberal Judaism, is a trans campaigner and runs the landmark trans and faith project Twilight People.
Maurice Nagington is a Quaker and attends meetings in Manchester. He is an academic at the University of Manchester and has used a lot of queer theory to inform his work.£10 QLGF Members / £15 Non-Members / £5 Unemployed, Students, Under-25s.
