Henry Cadbury: Quaker, Pacifist, and Skeptic
20 February 2026, Online
In this session we will explore the life and witness of Henry Cadbury, an internationally celebrated Quaker scholar, humanitarian, and social activist, especially remembered today for his role in establishing the American Friends Service Committee in 1917.
This 90-minute session will include a presentation from Professor James Krippner, historian and co-author of Henry Cadbury: Quaker, Pacifist, and Skeptic, who will speak about key elements of Cadbury's life, including the political complexities of Cadbury's pacifism which ultimately led to his controversial dismissal from Haverford College in 1918. The presentation will be followed by time for questions and comments from participants. No prior knowledge of Henry Cadbury or the book will be necessary to participate in this session.
