Eucharistic Bodies

16 February - 22 March 2021

To deepen Quaker understanding of body theology, Disabled Theology, and theological ethics. In particular, learners will be encouraged to make links between Quaker tradition(s) and contemporary discussions in Contextual Theology. Themes in this course will include Quaker Worship and the Body, Quakers, Healing and Medicine, Sin and Miracles, Suffering and Theodicy.

What has the Quaker tradition to say about bodies, ethics, and disability? In this course, learners will be introduced to Quaker accounts of disability through the themes of Eucharist, woundedness, and interdependence. Sessions will show the ways in which Quaker theology has resources to liberate disabled persons and challenge Ableism, in dialogue with a range of other philosophical and theological traditions.
