Essentials of Quaker Eldership
9 February 2026
Being a Quaker elder can be inspiring but also challenging. This is a monthly space for those with eldership responsibilities to come together to consider and learn how to serve as an effective elder in your Quaker community.
The session will be an opportunity to explore issues arising from carrying out your responsibilities as an elder for your Quaker community. You will gain insights from the experienced tutors as well as fellow participants to find solutions.
One of the tutors from Quaker Life (BYM) or Woodbrooke who are experienced in eldership in a number of Quaker settings will facilitate the topic-based monthly sessions. While we will refer to live issues and case studies, we highly recommend that you come ready with the main resource book on eldership, With a Tender Hand (2015), in addition to the Book of Discipline.
The sessions are held on the second Monday of every month. Come to all or any. It is not a drop-in but you can book right up to the start of the session at 7.30pm.
