Being and doing: decolonising Quaker identity
7 December 2022, Online
This session takes a postcolonial approach to reflecting on Quaker identity through the lens of Willie James Jennings' pioneering work on 'Whiteness'. While Quakerism has an enviable reputation for social and political radicalism, this radical witness, has nonetheless, been impeded by the often-invisible perspectives of Whiteness. This session will seek to deconstruct the hidden facet of Whiteness, so enabling British Quakerism to be a more inclusive and dynamic tradition in British life.
This session is one of an ongoing series of sessions on Quakers, racism and colonialism, looking at the topic from a number of different aspects: theology, history and witness to peace and equality. When you register for this session, you will be given access to a resource page where recordings of all the sessions will be posted.
