Being A Quaker at Work
20 November - 17 December 2021, Online
How can we be Quakers in the places where we spend much of our lives and where we are often the only Quaker?
As Quakers we are called to be 'patterns and examples' – what does that entail in today's workplaces? Should we talk about our faith? How can we do that without being seen as the office weirdo? What can we do when our Quaker faith is in conflict with values, attitudes and actions we find at work?
This course will explore these questions by drawing on the experiences of Quakers in different kinds of workplaces, looking at the challenges they have faced and how they have addressed them. Participants will have the chance to explore what being a Quaker at work means to them and to practise having difficult and enriching conversations with colleagues. It will challenge us to think about how we live our values in our everyday lives.
Before each session, participants will watch a video of a conversation with a Quaker or Quakers working in a different workplace environment. These will be accompanied by reflective questions to be explored individually. The questions will be explored further in small groups in the live sessions followed by worship.
This course is aimed primarily at Quakers working in non-Quaker organisations and workplaces.
