York Quakers join Pride to celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusion
Quakers are an LGBTQ+ affirming faith group and York Quakers showed their commitment to equality at York Pride at Knavesmire in June.
Enjoying their day at Pride, York Quakers handed out 3kg of sweets, Quaker pride stickers and 4 types of Quaker badges, which were very popular.
To offer a quiet space for those needing calm, the Quakers set up a gazebo with cosy blankets and a craft table with the help of a Quaker from a local neurodivergent group.
Sue Clarke from Harrogate meeting, who helped to arrange the Quaker stand, said: “We had so many conversations with so many people about Quakers, religion, spirituality, LGBTQ+ experiences and Quaker weddings. It was busy from 10.30am to 6.30pm. We'll definitely be doing it again next year – and we're looking forward to joining the parade next year too."
Quakers from across the country are planning stands and presence at Pride events.
