Quakers busy in preparation for upcoming election
Quakers are political due to our faith commitments. With the general election on 4th July, Quakers up and down the country are engaged in preparations – from chairing general elections hustings to lobbying prospective MPs and much more besides.
As Rhiannon Grant says in her book, 'Quakers do what! Why?', 'Quakers make religious claims which have political implications'. Commitments to peace, equality and sustainability lead many Quakers to actions, in their private lives and public life.
Friends across the Yearly Meeting are making the most of the Quakers in Britain resources to consider how to engage with their local candidates and communities. Quakers are focussing on democracy, truth and integrity, climate justice, peace and peace education and migration. There are resources for adult voters and also for how to explore issues with children and young people.
The general election offers a great opportunity to talk about Quaker values and issues we care about.
