George Fox 400 outreach events a success
George Fox, one of the founders of Quakers would celebrate his 400th birthday this year. Quakers across the globe are holding events to build community and welcome people.
Letchworth Meeting held their George Fox 400 event earlier this summer, where people came together to find out more about Quaker history, experience a 'taster' epilogue and raise money for 'Growing People', which provides horticultural therapy to people with mental health problems. The day was a success, with much fun and raising over £400, despite some very wet weather. Letchworth Quakers hope they might welcome people back for meeting for worship on Sundays.
Bristol Quakerss braved the wind and rain at Kingsweston burial ground to celebrate with a shared picnic - including a 400 cake. They had various activities including, seeking the 'Valiant 60' whose names were hiding around the site; making bunting; and discussing George Fox quotations. The afternoon ended with a period of worship-sharing underneath a parachute which doubled up as a rain-proof shelter.
