The Mother of Quakerism: The Life and Writings of Margaret Fell

This six-week online course explores the life, writings and legacy of the 'Mother of Quakerism', Margaret Fell, looking at the contribution she made to the formation of the early Quaker movement as an organizer, counsellor, lobbyist and writer.
In this course, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the early Quaker movement, and an appreciation of the vital role Margaret Fell played in ensuring its survival. We will look at a selection of writings taken from her published works, including epistles, disputations, political addresses, and theological tracts. This will include her writings addressed to the Jewish communities in Amsterdam. Her relationship with George Fox will be explored and the nature of her legacy will be assessed.
These learning materials will be made available online. In addition, there will be three live sessions, using Zoom, providing an opportunity for discussion and sharing.
