Roots of climate conflict, routes to climate resilience

12 October 2024, Aberystwyth

A day exploring local peacebuilding in the context of climate breakdown, run by Quakers in Britain and Aberystwyth Quaker Meeting. Open to people of all faiths and none.

Knowing where to start when it comes to confronting the multiple crises on the horizon can feel overwhelming, leading us to despair rather than action. This day aims to look at how international issues are present on our own front step. Starting with Aberystwyth, we'll consider what meaningful local action can be taken now to build a safer future.

How can we use the anger and sorrow we feel at injustice to guide where we work for change? What conflicts are taking root locally now that might grow wild in the uncertainty of climate chaos? What existing good work might give us routes to broader community resilience in the face of floods?

We'll look at exploring these big questions through local examples and Quaker practices. We hope to strike a balance between reflecting and doing, in the belief that starting from stillness can lead to better action.
