Racial Justice Dialogues: Implementing Anti-Racism in Meetings

21 September - 18 January 2025, Online

How do we practically implement anti-racism in our Quaker meetings? Nim Njuguna and Jonathan Doering, authors of 'Enlarging the Tent', will lead two interactive workshops to support Quakers who are ready to take the next steps in anti-racism.

If you have already done work to notice white privilege and begun to understand the impact on Black, Brown and People of Colour, and are moving beyond your individual awareness-raising to actively working with and within your meeting (and the Society) to be engaged and active 'in becoming an anti-racist church', this course is for you.

Nim & Jonathan will lead this online exploration process over 2 Saturdays to support you in identifying practical steps you can take to put anti-racism in place in your Quaker community.

In the first session, the focus will be on working together to make plans for actions to take in the coming three months within your Quaker communities, partly drawing on your experience of the joys and sorrows you have encountered in 'doing' anti-racism already. We will also plan how your experiences can be gathered towards creating a resource that can be of use to others on this journey.

The opportunity for you to continue dialogue, share your experiences and support one another between the two sessions will be available via the course Moodle.

In the second session (3 months later), we will come together to share what has been achieved, what challenges there have been and the learning we have had about how to take this work forward and how we will share this more widely.

These online workshops will use a mixture of group discussion, individual reflection and input from the facilitators.

*If you can, come in pairs from your local or area meeting, so that you have mutual support to take this back to your community.

The live Zoom sessions are at 10:00-16:00 (UK time) on Saturday 21 September 2024 and Saturday 18 January 2025.
