Linking Climate Justice and Demilitarisation

7 August - 10 September 2024, Online

In this two-part exploratory space, held in partnership with Quaker Peace and Social Witness, we will delve into the links between militarism and climate and explore how re-envisaging these challenges is necessary for shaping a safer, fairer world.

We will explore questions such as:

  • How are militarism and climate breakdown intertwined?
  • What are the connections between the Quaker testimonies to peace and sustainability?
  • How can we work for peace and climate justice in an interconnected way that strengthens our movements?
  • This two-part exploratory space will include a period for reading and reflection, with resources and an online forum for discussion provided between sessions.

    Session 1

Participants will deepen their knowledge of the connections between peace and climate justice and will have space to explore what living out these commitments means to them.

Charlotte Cooper will introduce Militarism and climate breakdown as a new focus within Quaker Peace and Social Witness's core work. We will explore the wide-ranging links between these issues, and how working for peace and climate justice are therefore inextricably intertwined.

    Session 2

We will reconvene to address any questions or concerns that may have arisen in the intervening time. Then move into a worship-sharing space of deep reflection, perhaps moving towards discerning our next steps.

We will also be joined by grassroots speakers (TBC) involved in witness. Offering insight, inspiration and an invitation to support this new, growing community of action.

The live Zoom sessions are at 19:00-20:30 (UK time) on Wednesday 7 August and Tuesday 10 September.
