Global Perspectives on Conscientious Objection

24 October 2024, Online

How are organisations in Germany supporting conscientious objectors to access asylum? How are Quakers in Georgia supporting people from Russia and Ukraine who are refusing to fight? How is it to refuse to fight? What are the impacts on people's lives?

Choosing not to fight in the context of war is an extraordinarily brave choice to make and one that Quakers have long championed. In this series of three 90-minute sessions we will hear from voices in different parts of the world.

In this session, we will hear from:

  • Marah Frech of Connection e.V, a member of Connection e.V's executive office who focuses on conscientious objection and antimilitarism. Marah will share about the work Connection e.V. does on supporting Conscientious Objectors to access asylum.
  • Mikheil (Misha) Elizbarashvili, a Georgian Quaker who is active in the ACT for Transformation Caucasus office, a board member the of Funding for Ukraine Group (FUG) and is supporting Conscientious Objectors from Russia & Ukraine
  • Russian Conscientious Objectors or deserters (depending on their availability at the time of the session)
