Climate Dialogues: Finding Common Ground
30 January 2025, Online
In this session, we will explore how to find common ground for climate conversations in a divided society: how can we use this constructive, positive approach to enable our leaders, companies, and one another to find ways forward together?
Join Rob Paton to explore practices for finding common ground and moving beyond adversarial mindsets. Often, our default setting is that we need other people to think more like us. Relational campaigning and meeting others where they are offers a different approach, which should be at the heart of how we begin shifting the prevailing mindset.
This session will explore this key approach from community organising—finding common ground to enable positive conversations about the climate crisis.
The session will involve active learning, sharing, and discussion. Optional resources will be provided in advance to enable you to join with both heart and mind prepared: up to 20 minutes of reading/viewing and 10 minutes of reflection.
Many of us have made significant changes to our lifestyles, knowing that such personal witness will not be enough. We may sympathise with Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil; however, we may also sense that the moment for such oppositional campaigning may have passed. Relational campaigning is a Quakerly alternative, available to all.
