The Art of Commoning

5 September - 10 October 2023, Online

Dominant ways of being, thinking and organising are crumbling all around us, confronting us with the opportunity, and responsibility, to grow new ways. This brave learning space explores "commoning" as a resource for life in the sixth mass extinction.

In this time of multiple crises - political, economic, social, ecological, spiritual and more – our ways are rightly called into question, as they crack and crumble around us. This course explores alternative ways of living.

Reflecting back on a decade of living in intentional communities, community work and activism, in 2020 Sam wrote a reflective piece entitled 'The Art of Commoning'.

In this six-week online course, we will co-create a brave learning space together, using 'The Art of Commoning' taking its six principles to help us explore how "commoning" as an approach to life can be a helpful way of being for a world in crisis.

1. Wake up to interconnection,

2. Take care of one another,

3. Know and love the land,

4. Cultivate healing cultures,

5. Collaborate, cooperate, co-create,

6. Continue the conversation.

In this course we will all be students and we will all be teachers, giving from our own resources and experiences as well as receiving from others. There will be one online gathering each week, and in between each gathering there will resources shared and opportunities to reflect together on Moodle, our online learning platform.

There will be some material to look at prior to the first session. We will email you around one week prior to the course with information about accessing the course including this material on Moodle.

Live sessions will take place every Tuesday at 18:30-20:30 (UK time)
