Tackling Taboo: discerning difficult topics

12 June - 17 July 2024, Online

Are there topics your local meeting cannot talk about in the open or cannot discern a response to? Do you feel stuck by conflict avoidance or invisible seeming blocks to Truth? If so, your experience has much in common with many others.

A road sign with arrows pointing in different directions

This course is drawn from Windy's experience with using a creative new model for corporate discernment to address important, but taboo, experiences with tenderness and wisdom.

We might be concerned with talking about taboo or hard things and avoid them, fearing we don't have the skills to engage with tenderness and wisdom. This avoidance is causing ruptures in our communities where important experiences cannot be addressed.

The course offers a model of corporate sharing and listening that is based on both traditional Quaker clearness process and on ethnographic technique, moving from the individual's personal clarity to the clarity of the community in circles of accompaniment.

In this course we will explore and seek to understand this method, using a mix of presentations, sharing, small group work and reflective activities.

Live sessions take place on Zoom every Wednesday at 18:30-20:00 (UK time)
