Reparations: a retreat

6 - 8 October 2023, Milton Keynes

A residential retreat to nourish, encourage and resource Friends already engaged in anti-racism and reparations work. Come together to learn, share experiences, resources, challenges and ideas and to collectively identify ways forward.

Some Friends are alone in their meetings in wanting to initiate conversations on reparations; or are working together with others but facing lots of resistance from others in their meetings. It can feel lonely and tiring. In this weekend retreat we hope to bring together Friends from different parts of the UK (and Europe) who are working on or longing to work in some way on reparations, to build a community of committed and supported Friends who feel nourished –in spirit, ideas and energy- to take this work forwards.

During this weekend, we will resource ourselves and this work through seeking to connect to the spirit in shared worship; and through connecting to each other through deep, compassionate listening. We will use small-group creative activities and questions inspired by Appreciative Inquiry to explore our hopes, achievements and challenges so far around making reparations (personally and as a community) and to discern our next steps.

The retreat begins on Friday with the evening meal and ends with lunch on Sunday.
