Isaac Penington: metaphor and divine mystery

16 June 2024, Online

In this half-day online session, guided meditation will help us reflect on how metaphors drawn from Isaac Penington's writings speak to us today, and deepen our understanding of his contribution to Quaker spirituality.

An antique book open in front of a pile of other antique books

Throughout his writings, Isaac Penington (1616-1679) consistently uses powerful metaphors to lead people to the 'sweet experience' of the immediacy of divine mystery. During this session, we will focus on words and phrases Penington uses again and again, considering how they might resonate for us today and where they lead us next.

The session will include time for individual reflection away from your screen.
