How Quakers Talk About God

9 October - 13 November 2023, Online

God, Love, Light, Spirit, Energy, Mother, Father, Parent, Ineffable and possibly fictional Being… Quakers have varying spiritual experiences and talk about the Mysteries at the heart of those experiences in many ways. Explore options and create your own.

This course will use real examples and a playful approach to explore questions such as: Can we put our spiritual experience into words? What's the best way to understand the language Quakers use in spoken ministry? How do nontheists and believers talk about their spiritual experiences? What do Quaker ways of talking about God tell us about Quaker theology in general?

Over six live sessions (recorded and with the option to contribute in a forum), this course will introduce key ideas about the nature of religious language, consider examples of Quaker ways of talking about the Divine, and create space for us to find our own words. There will be optional further reading but the main content will be in the live discussions.

Live sessions take place on Zoom every Monday, 19:00-20:30 (UK time).
