Exploring Quaker Decision Making Processes

23 September 2023, Online

Are there aspects of how Quakers make corporate and personal decisions that you don't understand? Do you have questions you never quite get chance to ask?' This session looks at the roles of every member and attender in the meeting in corporate decisions.

Quaker Business Method is sited by many as the reason they became a member of the Religious Society of Friends. Starkly different to more mainstream decision-making processes, Quaker Business Method is unique in patience and depth of consideration members are required to find, but it can be a complete mystery to those witnessing it for the first time!

We will unpack other Quaker processes beyond Business Method, like Threshing and Meetings for Clearness and think about discernment, 'finding the sense of the meeting' and the role of ministry.

This session is not just for new Friends, it is valuable to Quakers, seasoned and not, to invest time in consideration of what could be considered basic practices in order for us to keep working smoothly as a community and to be the change we want to see in the world.
