SEP 11

Building a Trauma-Informed Beloved Community

11 September - 4 October 2023, Online

Drawing from the latest theories on trauma and the body, this course will equip participants with the tools and capacities to engage with conflict and trauma in more meaningful and transformative ways.

Many of us have been taught to avoid conflict in order to maintain a sense of connection with others. However, this avoidance can come at a cost to community integrity, often leaving us ill-equipped to navigate conflicts when they do arise. This course challenges the assumption that trauma and community ruptures only occur during open conflicts, and explores the idea that rupture, when addressed and repaired, is an opportunity for spiritual and community formation that conflict avoidance cannot be.

Through a combination of experiential exercises, reflective inquiry, and small group discussions, participants will develop greater awareness of their own responses to conflict, and explore strategies for engaging with others in ways that promote healing and connection. Participants will consider how to cultivate community resilience in the face of trauma, and how to create spaces for repair, reconciliation and real growth in their relationships.

There will be some material to look at before the first session. We will email you around one week prior to the course with information about accessing the course, including this material, on our online learning platform (Moodle).

Live sessions will take place at 19:00-21:00 (UK time) every Monday, and worship every Wednesday at 19:00-20:30 (UK time)
